From staff reports
The Oil City High School swim team has created a fundraising campaign to cover the costs of purchasing and installing six new starting blocks.
The blocks were last replaced about 25 years ago, and the current block is 18 inches in length compared to today’s standard dive platform being 36 inches.
There are two parts to the fundraiser with the first first component consisting of each of the swimmers asking 50 people that they know for $5.
If a swimmer collects more than $5, they are allowed to respectively list it as “two asks” for $10 and “three asks” for $20.
The swimmer and their parents are working on this until Monday, Feb. 13.
In addition, an account has been created on www.youcaring.com with a goal of raising $33,000.
People might also be visiting door-to-door asking for donations. Parents are equipped with receipt books that are stamped with “Oil City Area School District,” so that when a cash donation is made, the donor will be issued a receipt.
Checks are accepted too, and they can be made out to Oil City Area School District with “Blue and White Club swim team fundraiser” listed in the memo line.
The campaign deadline is Aug. 1.
