An Oil City woman is facing charges of aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person for pointing a gun at her son’s father.
Oil City police said in a criminal complaint they were called Sunday afternoon to a residence in the 600 block of East Fourth Street after the caller reported his mother, Mary Jean Basham, 29, had pulled a gun on his father.
When police arrived, Basham’s son told police Basham had pointed the gun at his father’s head, that they were fighting, and that his mother was “using drugs a lot and disappears for days and weeks at a time,” the complaint said.
The boy’s father said Basham had been sleeping in a car outside the home and that he had gotten into the passenger side of the vehicle, then she began “flipping out” and “slammed the gas” when she woke up, traveling up the street and swerving to avoid a parked car, the complaint said.
Basham then “slammed” the brakes in front of the house, causing the man to hit and damage the windshield, and she then pointed a semi-automatic handgun at him, at which time he grabbed the firearm in fear for his safety, the complaint said.
Police later recovered two firearms from the vehicle, the complaint said.
Basham is facing a felony count of aggravated assault — attempts to cause or causes bodily injury with deadly weapon, and a misdemeanor count of recklessly endangering another person.
She is being held in the Venango County Jail with bail denied due to her being a threat to the man, and her preliminary hearing is scheduled Wednesday in Central Court.
