OC Veterans Day events planned Friday

Oil City’s annual Veterans Day observance is planned Friday.

The Oil City VFW is in charge of the program this year, and Friday’s event will begin with the annual Veterans Day parade downtown at 10:30 a.m., weather permitting.

The small parade will consist of the VETS Honor Guard, the Oil City High School marching band and area veterans, VFW commander Carl Sargent said.

The parade will leave Justus Park at 10:30 a.m. and proceed to the VFW post at 2 Relief St. All veterans are invited to attend, Sargent said.

The Veterans Day service will then begin at 11 a.m. outside the VFW post. In the event of inclement weather, the parade won’t take place and the service will be moved inside the VFW.

Meanwhile, the Oil City VFW Auxiliary will light up Relief Street on Friday evening with luminaries in honor of veterans. The auxiliary is accepting donations for the luminaries at the VFW, Sargent said. The donations will support the auxiliary’s veterans relief fund.

Students plan program

Seventh Street Elementary School students will present a veterans music program called “We Honor The Brave” at the Justus Park bandshell from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Friday prior to the parade.

The school has invited all veterans and their families to attend the program, and attendees are asked to bring a lawn chair.
