OC police warn of counterfeit money

From staff reports

Oil City police are asking area residents to be on the lookout for counterfeit money that has been popping up of late.

There have been several incidents where fake $10 bills have been circulated through area businesses and schools, police said.

Chinese letters are on the bills, but someone has covered up the marks with red ink, police said.

In addition, a black line appears in the top right-hand corner to resemble a checked bill.

Some counterfeit $100 bills have also been found with the wording, “for motion picture use only,” written at the top.

Police are recommending that residents check money before leaving a bank or retailer to make sure they don’t have counterfeit bills.
