An Oil City man is facing a felony charge following a domestic dispute Saturday at a residence on Walnut Street.

A criminal complaint says Oil City police were dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of Walnut Street at about 10:55 p.m. Saturday for a report of a man and woman who were arguing.

The caller said the woman went to the residence with her children, while the man went back inside the apartment, the complaint said.

Officers arrived and spoke with the woman who said she and Zachariah Wilt, 33, got into an argument that day, the complaint said.

The woman said Wilt was intoxicated and followed her through the residence while yelling at her, the complaint said.

The woman was walking to a bedroom to give her children something to drink when Wilt pushed her into the room, the complaint said.

Once inside the room, she shut the door, but Wilt pushed it open and broke the door, the complaint said.

Wilt then grabbed the woman by the throat, slammed her on the bed and began choking her, according to the complaint.

While choking her, Wilt punched the woman on the right side of her face, the complaint said.

The woman eventually got away from Wilt and went to a neighbor’s residence with her children, the complaint said.

Wilt is facing a felony count of strangulation, a misdemeanor count of simple assault and a summary count of harassment.

He was arraigned before district judge Patrick Lowrey and placed in the Venango County jail on $25,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing is tentatively set for July 26 in Central Court.
