The public can come to the Oil City Library and borrow rods, reels and a tackle box with hooks and other basic tackle.
Equipment is borrowed in the same way books are borrowed. Those wanting to borrow the equipment complete a form and the loan is made. At the end of the loan period the equipment is returned to the library.
This program is a partnership between the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, the American Sport fishing Association and Oil Region Library Association.
“We have been providing tackle and fishing equipment for many years to various locations,” Dee Fisher, Central Region Education Outreach Coordinator, said.
The program is designed to make it easy for anyone to access fishing tackle.
“It is part of our goal to provide fishing opportunities without barriers,” Fisher said.
“After the equipment is signed out it is our hope that the person that signs it out has so much fin that they want to borrow it again,” Fisher said.
Whether trying fishing for the first time, or returning to a childhood activity, these sites provide a loan of free tackle. This equipment may also be loaned to groups conducting angler education programs in the community.
