OC board looking to hike rate for substitute teachers

The Oil City School Board is considering increasing the daily pay rate for substitute teachers from $110 to $150 to stay competitive with neighboring districts. This would match the highest local rate, currently offered by Franklin. While Superintendent Lynda Weller believes the pay increase may not fully resolve the district’s challenges in securing substitutes, she acknowledges it could help. The board will vote on the proposed raise next week. Additionally, the school day at the high school and middle school will start 10 minutes earlier, and the district has received a $44,600 grant to provide fresh fruits and vegetables to elementary students.
