Nifty at 90: Man knowledgeable about agriculture, livestock

Edward Metz is celebrating his 90th birthday today. Born on August 2, 1934, in Oil City, he later moved to Waterford and played football for Fort LeBoeuf High School, earning the nickname “Herk.” After graduating in 1953, he pursued agricultural courses at Penn State University and began farming in Utica in 1954, a lifelong passion. He married Sue Metz in 1957, with whom he has three children. Besides farming, Edward worked for Canal Township, eventually becoming township supervisor, and volunteered as a 4-H leader for 17 years. He enjoys hunting and outdoor activities like cutting firewood and feeding cows.
