Nifty at 90: Leeper man has been a farmer, firefighter and fixer

Henry Phillip Lencer Sr. of Leeper will celebrate his 90th birthday on Dec. 8. Born in Hallton to Croatian immigrants, he grew up as one of 14 siblings. A 1952 Farmington High School graduate, Henry took over the family farm in Crown, where he raised turkeys and worked tirelessly while also holding various jobs, including co-owning a service station and serving as Farmington Township Roadmaster. A man of faith and a lifelong member of St. Mary Church, he has also been a dedicated member of the Farmington Volunteer Fire Department since 1960, earning lifetime recognition for his service. Henry, who retired in 2008 at age 74, cherishes time with his growing family of six children, 13 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Though he now spends most of his time indoors, he remains an enthusiastic Pittsburgh sports fan.
