Nifty at 90: Cooperstown woman enjoys many lifelong traditions

The article celebrates Maryetta Waldman Dutko, born in 1934, as she approaches her 90th birthday. Raised in Reading, PA, Maryetta was the oldest of four girls and an active Honor Girl Scout. After high school, she met her husband, Michael, at a USO dance, and they soon started a family in Ambridge, PA. Known for her welcoming home, Maryetta was a mother of four, a talented baker, and an enthusiastic Halloween hostess. In 1970, the family moved to Cooperstown, where Maryetta began her nursing career and later became a librarian. Her family remembers her for her delicious holiday baking, especially her Baklava, and the many traditions she upheld, from themed Christmas trees to homemade raspberry jelly. Now 90, Maryetta’s legacy is her family’s closeness and resilience, values she has instilled in each of them.
