To quote a Facebook friend, hummingbirds are nature’s flying jewels. With a little bit of sunshine, that statement proves to be very true. Under the right lighting, these little birds flash iridescent green wings and males sport a fiery red patch.
Anyone interested in learning more about these sparkling beauties, can attend a program sponsored by the Seneca Rocks Audubon Society.
Judy Acker, outreach project coordinator for Audubon Pennsylvania, will present on the ruby-throated hummingbird at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, at the Clarion Free Library in the lower level.
Meanwhile, not to be outdone in the color department, several tiger swallowtails visited the fading blossoms of the rhododendron bush.
Color was also exploding to life in the garden and elsewhere as the peonies, foxglove and other flowers put forth their best show.
The neighborhood bluebird (female pictured) is currently caring for three eggs in its nesting box.
