Nature’s flying jewels

Male ruby-throated hummingbird

A male ruby-throated hummingbird comes in for a landing.

To quote a Facebook friend, hummingbirds are nature’s flying jewels. With a little bit of sunshine, that statement proves to be very true. Under the right lighting, these little birds flash iridescent green wings and males sport a fiery red patch.

Anyone interested in learning more about these sparkling beauties, can attend a program sponsored by the Seneca Rocks Audubon Society.

Judy Acker, outreach project coordinator for Audubon Pennsylvania, will present on the ruby-throated hummingbird at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, at the Clarion Free Library in the lower level.
