Museum fundraiser seeks ‘best sandwich in county’

From staff reports

A fundraising campaign of a different flavor has been launched on behalf of the Venango Museum of Art, Science and Industry in Oil City.

The museum is sponsoring a contest dubbed “The Best Sandwich in the County.” Ten local restaurants have signed on to participate in the month-long event with the winning eatery awarded a certificate for having the best sandwich in Venango County.

Museum director Betsy Kellner said some restaurants will create special sandwiches available only during the contest.

Residents can participate by purchasing a $10 entry card at the museum or at participating restaurants. The card will entitle the individual to try a special sandwich for half-price.

The contest will end Oct. 6 and cardholders will write on the back of the ticket which sandwich they liked best and either mail them or drop them off to the museum.

Participating restaurants are Amazing Foods, Dawndi’s and The Franklin in Franklin; Casey’s and Northside Eatery in Oil City; Coal Oil Johnny’s Eatery in Pleasantville; Country Grub in Polk; Farmer’s Daughters in Seneca; Country Market in Reno and King’s in Barkeyville.
