Construction of a multimodal trail project along Route 62/8 (Allegheny Boulevard) in Franklin and Sugarcreek is expected to start next week.
The safety improvement project focuses on the section of roadway from the intersection with Elk Street in Franklin to the intersection with Front Street in Sugarcreek.
Work will include construction of the multi-use trail along the west side of the roadway and related pedestrian safety improvements. The project also calls for updated drainage and pavement markings, as well as increasing turning radius at the intersection with Front Street.
Work is expected to start Monday, weather permitting, on the Elk Street end of the project. The entire project is scheduled to be completed during the 2023 construction season.
The intercity regional route times will be used for travel from Sanders to Giant Eagle and the Franklin in-town route times will be used for travel from Giant Eagle back to Sanders Market. Southbound motorists could encounter some lane restrictions as needed throughout the project.
The contractor is M&B Services, of Clarion. The contract cost is $2,285,471, which is to be paid with the combination of state and federal funds.
