Man accused of stealing 10 guns at residence

From staff reports

A Harrisville man is facing charges for stealing 10 guns at a residence.

Franklin state police said in a criminal complaint that Bailey Palmer, 23, called his mother Friday night and told her numerous people broke into their residence and stole a number of firearms.

Police said they noticed as they traveled down the driveway to the residence where the firearms were allegedly stolen that there were no tire marks in the newly fallen snow.

Palmer’s mother told police that a door to a room in the house that was securely locked and contained firearms belonging to her husband had been broken into, the complaint said.

Palmer told police that 45 minutes earlier, “Big E,” who Palmer owed money to, and numerous “gangsters from New York” had entered the residence through the front door, broke down the locked door in the house and removed a number of guns, the complaint said.

Police observed a black backpack with a firearm sticking out of it in plain view in Palmer’s room and a bag containing a small amount of marijuana was also found in plain view in Palmer’s room, the complaint said.

Palmer actively resisted arrest and refused to put his hands behind his back, according to the complaint.

Five of the 10 missing guns were found in Palmer’s backpack and four more were found hidden in his bedroom, the complaint said. The owner of the guns is still searching for the missing 10th firearm, according to the complaint.

Palmer has been charged with 10 felony counts each of receiving stolen property and theft by unlawful taking-movable property as well as misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest, false reports-falsely incriminate another and marijuana-small amount personal use.

He was placed in the Venango County jail with bail denied, and his preliminary hearing is scheduled Wednesday in Central Court.
