Man accused of sexually assaulting girl, 15

A Franklin man is facing charges that accuse him of having sex with a 15-year-old girl.

A criminal complaint filed by Oil City police says Lt. Jonathan Love received a complaint of sexual assault on July 26 from the girl. She said she had sex with Owen Ginnery, 32, and that he was aware of her age prior to the act, the complaint said.

Ginnery came to the Oil City police station early Thursday morning and said he has been friends with the girl for almost a year, and that he had begun having feelings for her despite knowing it was wrong because of her age, according to the complaint.

Ginnery also admitted to having sex with the girl in June, the complaint said.

Charges filed against Ginnery include first-degree felony counts of statutory sexual assault and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, as well as misdemeanor counts of corruption of minors and indecent assault of a person less than 16.

Ginnery was arraigned Thursday before district judge Andrew Fish and placed in the Venango County jail after failing to post $75,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing in the case has been tentatively scheduled for Wednesday in Central Court.
