A Jack Russell terrier could use a new outlook on life. Rusty Mutts Senior Dog Sanctuary and Rescue steps up to help the seniors. Clarion PAWS hopes you’ll have a heart and Tri-County Animal Rescue Center and Precious Paws Animal Rescue have some lovely events planned.
The gift of sight
Help is needed for Jackman, a 7-year-old Jack Russell terrier.
Regina Martin, founder of Hog Heaven Rescue in Cochranton and former humane society police officer, said Jack was dropped of at the Venango County Humane Society by his owners.
Jack has bilateral mature cataracts.
“He is blind and of course VERY frightened with being in a new place with new smells and sounds,” Martin said.
Martin said the humane society said Jackman is good with other dogs and cats. “With his blindness you have to talk to him to reassure him before you touch him,” she added.
He was neutered last week and through the veterinarian that does the humane society’s spaying and neutering, Martin found out that Jack’s eye condition can be fixed as in humans.
Martin jumped on the phone to try to find a way to help Jack.
“I have called around and it will cost anywhere between $4,200 and $5,000,” Martin said.
“I know that is a lot of money, but little dogs can live up to 15 years or longer.” she added.
“Jack has touched my heart,” she said.
He has an evaluation at a Pittsburgh specialty hospital on Feb. 15.
Martin has created a gofundme account and a youcare account for Jack. People may also donate through Paypay for the Venango County Humane Society.
To donate through gofundme and youcare people may search for “help Jackman see.”
Folks can also send their donations to the humane society with Jackman in the memo.
Up for adoption
The humane society has Icey the cat and Pongo the dog available for adoption.
Icey, a domestic medium hair, is a 5-year-old spayed female. She’s a handsome tortoiseshell with an angular head and wide green eyes. “Her previous owner tells us she is friendly and good with other cats once she’s had time to get acquainted with them,” the humane society posted on PetFinder.
Pongo, an American Pit Bull Terrier mix, is a 9- to 10-month-old neutered male. He has a sleek black and white coat and dark brown eyes. Pongo is an active dog who’ll need mental and physical stimulation in the form of a daily walk with a harness and a leash and obedience training.
“He’s bright and playful, but not good with kids under 7 years of age. He’ll be happy being the only pet in this house. His previous owner tells us Pongo is house trained and crate trained,” the humane society posted on PetFinder.
The humane society is open from noon to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. It is located at 286 S. Main St., Seneca. More information on the Venango County Humane Society is available by calling (814) 677-4040.
Introducing Rusty Mutts
Rusty Mutts Senior Dog Sanctuary and Rescue, or RMSDSR, in Franklin is a no-kill, non-profit organization committed to the care and re-homing of senior dogs 10 years of age and up, to educating the public on the benefits of adopting a senior pet and on the necessary steps to assist a senior dog in need.
When aging parents, relatives or friends can no longer care for their senior canine due to difficult circumstances, or a senior dog is being neglected or abused, RMSDSR will provide these bewildered pets a warm bed, nourishing meals and an abundance of affection. Considerable care will be taken to find excellent matches for RMSDSR’s senior dogs so they can relish their golden years with loving, devoted families.
The rescue’s Facebook page is still under construction, but it hopes to share tips on how to help senior dogs in need, rescues available for adoption and much more!
People can find the rescue at www.facebook.com/RustyMuttsSeniorDogSanctuaryAndRescue.
Senior seeks leisurely lifestyle
“If you enjoy an unhurried pace, we have the perfect companion for you,” RMSDSR said.
“Whether you’re puttering in your yard or watching TV, this good-natured fellow will be at your side. Spike would be grateful to share his twilight years with someone who appreciates the love of an old dog. And he wouldn’t mind a few head scratches every day,” the rescue said.
People may call Deb today at (814) 758-7850 and arrange to meet this handsome fellow.
Have a heart
Clarion PAWS of Shippenville is hoping to buy some love for its residents.
“February, the month of Love, Snuggling, Cuddling (and sweet gifts) is here. Show our furry residents how much they are loved,” the shelter posted on its Facebook page.

“As a ‘sweet treat’ for our supporters, for every 10 hearts you purchase or sell we will enter your name in a drawing for $50 in instant lottery tickets,” the shelter posted.
Each personalized heart will be displayed for the whole month outside that resident’s room.
“Let’s cover the walls with hearts of love,” the shelter posted.
Forms and money may be dropped off at the PAWS house or mailed to: P.O. Box 804, Clarion, PA 16214.

From sad story to safe and loved
Precious Paws Animal Rescue in Franklin helped out another cat in need. The rescue also has several events planned.
Theresa Weldon posted earlier about Lucky the cat.
“We took in this poor kitty on Tuesday at SNYP. His name is Lucky and he’s got a sad story to tell but he’s now safe and loved. His wounds will heal and he’ll learn to trust again,” she posted.
“This poor guy was in the most horrid condition we’d ever seen at SNYP. He was coated in feces and urine and had badly injured himself in a trap. He had bloody paws and missing toenails. They said he was feral but we are able to touch him. Say a prayer for him,” she added.
She also posted an update on the rescue’s Seniors for Seniors program. Kitties Izzy and Blossom were placed at Sugar Valley Lodge.
Facilities who are interested in the program can give the rescue a call at 671-9827.
The rescue also received some donations. Weldon posted that Haley Cherry of Rocky Grove High School collected donations for Precious Paws as part of her senior project.
“She also raffled off a pretty awesome Edible Arrangement,” Weldon posted.
Weldon also posted a “Thank You” to Lucia Zacherl and “the awesome folks at the Oil City YWCA who collected donations for Precious Paws and SNYP. ”
