The Civil Air Patrol’s Franklin Composite Squadron recently promoted Cadet Mariner Perry of Venus to cadet 2nd lieutenant after he earned the prestigious Brigadier General Billy Mitchell Award, an achievement reached by only 15 percent of cadets nationwide. Following his promotion, Perry took command of Major Don Beatty Composite Squadron 501, overseeing the leadership, emergency services, and aerospace development of cadets in Venango County. His sister, Cadet Lt. Colonel Ellabay Perry, was also promoted to cadet lieutenant colonel after receiving the Eaker Award, the second-highest cadet rank. Other cadets earned various promotions, including the Wright Brothers Award and cadet senior master sergeant. State Sen. Scott Hutchinson attended the ceremony to promote the cadet officers.
