From staff reports
Local letter carriers are gearing up for their annual food drive May 13.
This year marks the National Association of Letter Carriers’ 25th “Stamp Out Hunger!” drive.
Canned and boxed nonperishable food items are requested to be placed in sturdy bags or boxes by mailboxes or on porches to be picked up that day by the letter carriers.
Homemade items or glass-packaged items won’t be accepted.
The items will be transported via mail trucks to central locations for sorting and distribution to a variety of local agencies with food pantries for the needy.
In Franklin, donations are routinely distributed to the St. Patrick Church Food Pantry, Community Services of Venango County and the Salvation Army of Franklin.
In Oil City, donations are routinely distributed to the St. Elizabeth Center, Free Methodist Church Food Pantry, Community Services of Venango County and the Salvation Army of Oil City.
