Precious Paws Animal Rescue and Tri-County Animal Rescue Center have fundraisers planned on Saturday and other animal rescues are looking for folks to lend a helping hand or provide a home.
Think spring… craft show
Precious Paws Animal Rescue’s spring craft show will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 17, at the Rocky Grove fire hall, 29 Shuffstall St., Franklin.
There is a $25 fee per table for vendors.
It will feature many vendors, baked goods, raffle baskets and more.
A vaccination clinic will also be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 17 during the craft show.
Those who take a bag of dog or cat food, cat litter, a cleaning product or gives a donation will receive a ticket for a chance to win a door prize.
Meanwhile, Precious Paws President Theresa Weldon posted an Oscar Fund case the rescue was working on.
“One is for our own PPAR rescue named Rosie. Rosie is a four-year-old black Labrador. She came to us from Sugarcreek police and Franklin Animal Clinic, where she had been taken in as a neglect case. She weighed just 40 pounds Rosie was found to be diabetic and was started on insulin. Because of Rosie’s special needs, Dr. Palumbo asked us to place her in foster care,” Weldon said.
“PPAR didn’t hesitate to take her in even though we knew the courts might not award her to us. (A volunteer) became her foster mama and put an amazing 40 pounds on her since we took her in that late September 2017. After much expensive blood work, medicine adjustment, we were awarded custody of her,” she posted.
“Rosie is doing great with her diabetes management. She requires insulin twice a day and is on a rigid schedule,” the post continued.
“Unfortunately, Rosie’s diabetes had gone untreated for a long time and she developed cataracts. She is now mostly blind — the vet believes she can see shapes from her right eye,” Weldon said.
“We found a wonderful home willing to adopt Rosie and take care of her diabetes. However, they are concerned that moving her into a new home with their other dog would be too hard on her without vision,” she added.
The estimate from PVSEC to remove the cataracts from both eyes is just under $4,000.
“That’s tremendous drain on the Oscar Fund so we are asking for your help for Rosie,” Weldon said.
The rescue accepts donations via PayPal to AdoptPreciousPaws@gmail.com or checks to P.O. Box 784, Franklin, PA 16323. Donations are tax deductible under IRS rules.
“We have helped so many with our Oscar Fund, please consider making a donation to allow us to help a Rosie,” Weldon said.

Hoppy Easter event planned
Tri-County Animal Rescue will hold its annual Hoppy Easter Event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 17, at the Clarion Tractor Supply.
There will be an Easter egg hunt at 10 a.m. for children ages 10 years old and younger. The Easter Bunny will be there for photos with children and/or pets. The cost is $5 for a CD of the pictures.
The rescue will also hold a basket raffle and bake sale for humans and pets. All proceeds benefit the dogs and cats at the rescue.
Tri-County Animal Rescue is a community non-profit organization that exists to support the no-kill rescue, rehabilitation, adoption, rights and welfare of companion animals in Clarion, Forest, Jefferson and surrounding counties.
“We maintain our organization through the generous amounts of time donated by a committed group of volunteers. New volunteers are always welcome,” the center said.
“In addition to the lovable companion animals we care for and sponsor, Tri-County also offers the community a discounted spay and neuter clinic and a pet food bank,” it added.

Help wanted
Clarion PAWS is looking for some help.
“We would love to have radio ads, organize or attend fundraising events and benefits from community raffles and programs, but we just can’t find the time to obtain sponsors, initiate ideas and solicit prizes,” the rescue posted on its Facebook page.
“If you are able to help with fundraising and networking we sure could use the help. We rely 100 percent on donations and really need more to continue to pay our overhead each month,” the post continued.
The rescue posted that it would like to attend an event on March 23, but needs to find people who can man the booth on that day.
Meanwhile, it posted a photo of its residents catnapping.
“Room 7’s residents are ready for spring. Luckily they like each other and can cuddle for warmth,” the rescue posted on its Facebook page.
Clarion PAWS is located at 11348 Route 322, Shippenville, Clarion River Hill, between Scrap Happy and Clarion Electric. The adoption center is open from 5 to 7 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturdays. The center is closed Fridays and Sundays.
