Hurricane help

Club Pet Adoption of Transfer and other groups are organizing a truckload of donations to the animal victims of Hurricane Harvey in Texas.

The truck, coordinated by Club Pet Adoption, the Mercer County Humane Society and All Paws Matter will be located at Tractor Supply Company, 2998 E. State St. in Hermitage.

The truck will leave early Tuesday morning.

Volunteers hope to hold hours over the next few days – from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Hermitage location.

The groups are looking for volunteers and donations. More information can be found on Club Pet Adoption’s Facebook page.

Two local groups, Clarion PUPS and Hog Heaven are also collecting donations.

Clarion folks can drop off items at the Clarion PUPS truck that will be parked at 370 S. 5th Ave. in Clarion.

Clarion PUPS posted on its Facebook page a desperate need for plastic storage bins, medium and large wire crates, sheets, blankets, bleach and cleaning supplies, including mops, buckets and more.

The post said the Texas agencies do not have a lot of room for food due to the lack of storage space.

Hog Heaven in Cochranton is offering to be a drop off point and a Facebook post said the rescue plans to leave Monday.

More information about the Clarion PUPS and Hog Heaven drop-off points can be found on the groups’ Facebook pages.

Donate cash

Theresa Weldon with Precious Paws Animal Rescue in Franklin suggested people donate money to the various animal rescues in Texas in a post on Facebook.

“I’m going to suggest donating cash to the local Texas rescues so they can purchase what they really need …” Weldon posted.

“I would not encourage people to send food. It will go to waste. I’m from Texas and all my rescue friends say they have more than enough in supplies from the region,” she said.
