Horesthief Days pays homage to history while celebrating present

Dave Weaver, front, rode his Cub Cadet mower to victory in the stock division of the Knox Horsethief Days Lawnmower Races on Wednesday night. He defeated Kyle Swartfager in the final to remain unbeaten in the division.

The Knox Horsethief Days festival celebrates the local legend Sebastian “Boss” Buck, a notorious horse thief and counterfeiter. Despite its origins, the event now focuses on community celebration rather than crime, and is a lively gathering that honors Knox’s unique history while bringing the community together. The highlight of the festival so far was the lawnmower races, with Dave Weaver and Trey Bauer winning in their respective divisions.

The festival will continue today and tomorrow with various events, including a car show, live music, and a 5K run, culminating in a parade and fireworks.
