Hitched and ready to pull

The Wolf’s Corners Fair, near Tionesta, held a horse-pulling contest on Wednesday. Horse teams from Pennsylvania, New York and Vermont participated. Horses in the middleweight class weighed in at 3,800 pounds and were pulling 6,000 pounds on the sled. The horses in the photo above are a part of the heavyweight class, weighing in at 4,800 pounds, and were getting ready to pull 9,000 pounds on the sled. The fair began in the 1930s as a horse-pulling contest.
