Highmark specialists to explain changes at workshop

From staff reports

An informational workshop is planned to help people better understand the expected changes that may occur when the consent decree between Highmark and UPMC expires on June 30.

The workshop will be held from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, at the ETC training room at the Franklin Industrial & Commercial Development Authority, 191 Howard St., Franklin.

Tim McMullin and Michelle Kowalczuk, transition specialists with Highmark, will be the speakers.

The ending of the agreement between the two health systems will impact people with Highmark insurance who have UPMC health care providers.

Participants will learn about health care provider changes and what new options may be available. There also will be opportunity for people to have one-on-one meetings with the speakers.

The workshop is being sponsored by FICDA and the Franklin Area Chamber of Commerce as well as Barr’s Insurance.

Those who plan to attend should send an email to deckelberger@franklinpa.gov to reserve a spot at the workshop.
