Area animal rescues and shelters have a few adoption candidates that may require a little time, training and patience.
Time and treatment
Tri-County Animal Rescue Center in Shippenville has German shepherd Ceaser available for adoption.
“Calling all German shepherd lovers: Ceaser is a 5-year-old, neutered male German shepherd who is housebroken and has lived with adults, children, and other pets,” the center said in a listing on its website.
“Ceaser looks a little threadbare right now because of some hairless patches of skin, but like every other dog that has come to us in this condition he may just have a flea allergy that is simple to treat,” the rescue said.
“We feel sure that given time, medication, and better nutrition Ceaser’s coat will grow back beautifully,” the post said. “But who cares about hair loss when you have so much heart?”
In his kennel, Ceaser stands politely while his leash is hooked up and walks like a perfect gentleman to the back door.
“When he met the 8-year-old son of one of our volunteers, Ceaser did not jump up or bark; he gently sniffed this young acquaintance and then backed away to explore other things in the yard,” the rescue said.
“It’s his special heart that makes Ceaser so easy to love,” the post continued.
For more information on Ceaser, people may contact, Tri-County Animal Rescue Center on Facebook, call (814) 918-2032, or email: contactus@Tricounty-arc.org.
The rescue is also holding a Valentine’s Day event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at Tractor Supply in Clarion. During the event there will be a drawing for these prizes donated by Tonell Jewelry in Brookville.
First prize is a half-carat diamond ring, second is a man’s watch, third is a lady’s watch and fourth through 10th are earrings. Raffle tickets are $2 each or three for $5.
Tickets are available at the rescue center, at Tonell’s Jewelry & Gifts in Brookville and on the day of the event at Tractor Supply in Clarion.
The sky is the limit
Clarion PAWS in Shippenville has Sky available for adoption.
“Sky is so ready for her ‘furrever’ home. Her best friend recently got adopted and she is lost without her. She would like a house with lots of toys and maybe some playful siblings,” the rescue posted on its Facebook page.
Meanwhile, the shelter posted on Facebook that it was full.
“We are over ‘catpacity’ and are not accepting any new residents for the foreseeable future,” the post said.
Clarion PAWS is located at 11348 Route 322, Shippenville, Clarion River Hill, between Scrap Happy and Clarion Electric. The adoption center is open from 5 to 7 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
The center is closed Fridays and Sundays.

Heart of a lion
Luna, the lion, is available through Precious Paws Animal Rescue in Franklin.
“Luna’s foster stopped in to try on a coat I bought that seemed perfect for her. The sweet dog with the heart of a lion,” Theresa Weldon posted on the Precious Paws Facebook page.
“Look how much weight she’s gained! She looks super good,” Weldon said.
“This beauty comes from a bad situation where she was abandoned and left to fend for herself. Luckily she was rescued before it was too late and she has been nursed back to health with lots of love and food,” the rescue said in a PetFinder listing.
“Luna is 2-3 years old, shy but oh so sweet. She does well with cats and is in a foster home with larger dogs,” the listing said.
She is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed and tested negative for heartworm and Lyme disease.

Some special needs
The Venango County Humane Society in Seneca has Gypsy Rose available for adoption.
Gypsy Rose, a Schnauzer/Poodle mix, is a 10-year-old spayed female. She has a curly, salt and pepper coat, and dark brown eyes.
“Because Gypsy’s coat was matted and dirty when she came in, it was necessary to shave her. The T-shirt she’s wearing gives her a layer of warmth and comfort until her coat grows in. To stay healthy and lose some weight, Gypsy will need a daily exercise routine. Her needs can be met with a moderate walk on a leash, weather permitting, or playing games indoors. Once her coat grows in, it will need regular grooming,” the shelter said in a PetFinder listing.
The post also said that Rose will need some dental work.
Venango County Humane Society Bingo has a new Facebook page.
Games are held on Tuesday and Saturday nights. Doors open at 5 p.m. and bingo starts at 7 p.m.
The shelter’s hours are from noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
It is closed Sundays and holidays.
The Humane Society is located at 286 S. Main St., Seneca. More information on the Venango County Humane Society is available by calling (814) 677-4040.
Skinny and scared
Clarion PUPS has a mom and two puppies available for adoption.
“These sweet frightened owner surrenders are skinny and scared, but very kind,” the rescue posted on its Facebook page.
They are the perfect ages for training and with that combination of breeds, they should be a quick learn, the rescue said.
Marilee is the mother of Marissa and Malcolm. She is a 2-year-old female Lab/shepherd mix.
Marissa is a 4-month-old female shepherd/Lab mix.
Malcolm is a 4-month-old male shepherd/Lab mix.
The rescue is also gearing up for its Easter fundraiser.
It will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 24, at the Winds of Trade Community Center, 11993 Route 66, Clarion.
PUPS will be at the Winds of Trade Community Center with some of their adoptable dogs for people to meet and greet.
There will be pictures with the Easter Bunny from 1 to 4 p.m.
The event includes vendors, a bake sale, a Chinese auction and more.
A rabies clinic with Dr. McClaine of Jefferson Animal Clinic will be held from 2 to 4 p.m.
