Katie Ewing’s fourth-grade science students at Hasson Heights Elementary School have created sound machines demonstrating their knowledge and understanding of how sound travels.

The class has been learning that sound energy travels through media by way of vibrations. The students learned about sound waves and how they travel through the eardrum to the brain, frequency, pitch and volume.

They were assigned a task to develop a simple sound machine where at least two pitches could be heard and explain the materials used as well as how the pitches are varied from high to low.

The entire fourth-grade class at Hasson Heights worked at school and at home for two weeks.
