Almost every Friday night during the fall season, there is a football game. Every year there is always one special game, the big rivalry game. The game was between the Oil City Oilers vs the Franklin Knights on Oct. 1, 2021. Every other year the game is played at each high school. This year was Frankin’s turn. The drama between Oil City and Franklin high schools started at the beginning of the week. Every Friday night game has a new theme. White Out took place at Franklin, benefitting the Kirkland Foundation.

Not only was it a good game, but along with the rivalry came the intense feud between student sections. Every year, students show up to bring the best support to their team. This year, stuff got a little messy. One Oil City student, Abby Kreidler, and a Cranberry High School student, Laiyla Russell, took charge when the Franklin Frenzy tried to take our flag. When they failed, they had another student go to the Oilers’ side and take it.

Not only was it an intense game but with the help of sophomore player Ethen Knox getting 484 yards total, setting the Oil City Single-Game Rushing Record, the boys not only celebrated their win against the Franklin Knights, 54-8, but got to keep, yet again, the Route 8 sign!
