Franklin students win high honors in Elks statewide essay contest

Franklin School District sixth-grade students Azalea Cable (left) and Ariyanna Miller were big winners in a statewide essay contest on patriotism sponsored by the Pennsylvania Elks. Miller finished first in the state and Cable finished third.

Franklin School District sixth-graders Ariyanna Miller and Azalea Cable earned top honors in a statewide essay contest sponsored by the Pennsylvania Elks lodges on the topic “What Does Patriotism Mean to Me.” Miller placed first at the local, district, and state levels and will be recognized at the Pennsylvania Elks state convention in May, with her essay advancing to the national competition. Cable placed third in the state and will be honored at a Franklin Elks Lodge ceremony. Both students are in Eva Hollidge’s science/social studies class.
