The League of Hope coed pool league is once again looking for nomination letters to help a Venango County child in need.
The 52-person league, based in Franklin, has made it its mission for the past several years to raise money for local children who suffer from chronic illness or have been in a severe accident.
The team takes the dues from every person who shoots and contributes them to the fund to help a child, but the league also seeks community sponsors.
Lincoln suffered from Periodic Fever Syndrome, and Granger from a number of conditions including chronic infantile asthma, frequent respiratory and ear infections, difficulty swallowing, a right hip rotation and laryngeal cleft, according to the boys’ mother, Erin Habbyshaw.
Both boys frequently had to travel between Pittsburgh and their home in Stoneboro for visits to Children’s Hospital, and they also frequently had to visit specialists and attend therapy sessions.
People may nominate a family with a child up to age 18 who is currently diagnosed with a chronic illness, or has recently been in a severe accident. The child must be a Venango County resident.
Myers said that while the league understands a lot of information about illness is personal, if the letters can include some context and information surrounding the condition of the child, “that helps us make our decision.”
Letters must also include the child’s name and age and the name, address, phone number and email address of the parent or guardian.
Letters may be submitted by email to Kristine O’Dell at odellk@fasd.k12.pa.us, or by mail to Myers at 637 Niles Road, Franklin, 16323.
Nominations must be submitted by March 11.
