A Franklin man accused of leading police on a high-speed chase Monday in Sugarcreek Borough before he shot himself remains hospitalized in Pittsburgh.
Franklin state police trooper Brian O’Toole, the investigating officer in the case, confirmed 18-year-old Marcus Luce was still in UPMC Presbyterian hospital as of early Tuesday afternoon.
The hospital could not provide further details on Luce’s condition.
Luce reportedly failed to pull over during a traffic stop just before 5:30 p.m. Monday and traveled at an excessive rate of speed on Two Mile Run Road, Warren Road and Route 417.
Police said a male juvenile passenger was in the vehicle during the pursuit, but Luce slowed down enough to let him leave the vehicle.
After letting the passenger out, Luce took off again at a high rate of speed and the pursuit continued into Franklin, where Luce’s vehicle and a Franklin city police patrol vehicle collided, police said.
Police said Luce then produced a handgun and shot himself.
No other information has been released, and charges are pending in the case.
