According to a criminal complaint filed by Franklin state police, a Franklin man was charged after being accused of stealing a motorcycle and then admitting to driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
According to the complaint, police said they were dispatched to Congress Hill Road in Sandycreek Township for a motorcycle crash on Aug. 27.
When the officer arrived on the scene, the complaint said, he found a 1995 blue Harley Davidson motorcycle lying in the ditch on the right side of the road. There also was a deer lying in the same ditch down from the motorcycle.
A man then related to the officer that he was contacted by Casey Williams, 22, who admitted to taking the motorcycle and was sorry, the complaint said.
The man also informed the officer that Williams was at UPMC Northwest and was afraid to enter, the complaint said.
After investigation at the scene of the crash, the officer went to UPMC Northwest and made contact with Williams in the emergency room, the complaint said.
Williams told the officer that he had three “pounders” of beer and had also smoked marijuana, the complaint said.
Williams also told the officer “that he was alone and couldn’t help himself in taking the motorcycle,” the complaint said, and he thought he could take it for a ride and bring it back without anyone knowing.
Williams is being charged with felony counts of theft by unlawful taking — moveable property and receiving stolen property; misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence: controlled substance — impaired ability — first offense, and driving under the influence: controlled substance — schedule two or three — first offense; and summary counts of reckless driving, carless driving, driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked, operated a motor vehicle without the required financial responsibility, driving an unregistered vehicle and driving at safe speed.
Williams was arraigned Aug. 31 and his preliminary hearing is scheduled Sept. 21.
