Franklin man charged for having drugs, stolen gun

From staff reports

A Franklin man is facing numerous charges for being under the influence and in possession of a stolen handgun when he drove his vehicle into a snow bank last week.

Franklin state police said in a criminal complaint they were called Wednesday to Red Express on Pone Lane in Sandycreek Township where they found Homer Page, 39, had driven his vehicle into a snow bank in the parking lot.

Police observed Page swaying and nodding off while they were speaking with him, the complaint said.

Police also noticed a black pistol magazine protruding from a bag next to the driver’s seat and drug paraphernalia in the driver’s side front cup holder, according to the complaint. A pistol was found in the bag with a round in the chamber, and police found the pistol was stolen from Columbus, Ohio, the complaint said.

Two plastic containers with multiple bags of methamphetamine were found in Page’s pocket, and a butane torch was also found, the complaint said.

Page was taken to UPMC Northwest for a blood draw and then he was taken to the Venango County jail after being medically cleared from the hospital, according to the complaint. Page admitted to “being on methamphetamine and he was not sure what else,” the complaint said.

While searching Page’s vehicle, police found a pill container with 99 pills in it, a glass jar of marijuana, a clear plastic bag of marijuana, a bag containing a crushed pill, two cans of Narcan and numerous pieces of drug paraphernalia, the complaint said.

The complaint also noted that no vehicle information was found in Page’s vehicle except the license plate that belonged to another vehicle.

Page was charged with felony counts of receiving stolen property, possession of firearm prohibited, manufacture, delivery, or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver and firearms not to be carried without a license, misdemeanor counts of possession of controlled substance, marijuana-small amount personal use, use/possession of drug paraphernalia, DUI and disorderly conduct, and 14 summary traffic violations.

He was arraigned Monday and placed in the Venango County jail after being unable to post bail, and his preliminary hearing is scheduled March 17 in Central Court.
