A 24-year-old Franklin man, Brandon Johnson, is facing several charges after allegedly assaulting his former girlfriend while driving on Interstate 79 in Mercer County. According to a criminal complaint, Johnson became enraged after looking at the woman’s phone, leading to violent outbursts that included hitting her, throwing her phone out the window, and making threats that they wouldn’t make it home alive. He also pulled the car over, dragged her back into the vehicle when she tried to escape, and later choked and punched her. The incident concluded at a relative’s house in Franklin, where police intervened. Johnson has been charged with felony strangulation, along with several misdemeanors, and has a preliminary hearing scheduled for next week.
