Franklin Library to hold quiltathon fundraiser

From staff reports

Friends of the Franklin Public Library will host its annual quiltathon fundraiser from noon to 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at the library along 12th Street in Franklin.

Two quilt projects will be worked on during the event.

Cheryl Butler of The Flying Needles group that meets at the Franklin First United Methodist Church on Liberty Street has pieced together a Matilda quilt top.

The 58 by 64-inch quilt shows the children’s character Matilda sitting on a stack of books wondering what to read next.

The other quilt top is a 36 by 48-inch wall hanging, a small version of a Jinny Beyer’s creation called “Tessellating Tabbies.”

Both pieces are on display at the library.

People who want to contribute to the fundraiser can buy chances to win one of the completed quilts. Winning sponsors will be chosen in a drawing Oct. 10.

There is no quilting experience needed to participate in the fundraiser. Walk-in volunteers will be taught the art of quilting.

Anyone who is interested in collecting sponsors can pick up information at the library’s circulation desk or call (814) 432-5062 for more information.
