A holiday food drive to benefit Community Services of Venango County and the Oil City Salvation Army will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the North and South side fire stations in Oil City.

The drive will accept nonperishable items as well as toiletries and other materials.

“We talked to Community Services and asked them what they need, they said they need everything,” said Oil City Mayor Bill Moon, who is helping Jim Donze with the food drive.

Donze and Moon organized the drive last year when Donze, a former PennDOT employee, was bothered by the fact so many people in the area had been laid off because of the pandemic.

The food drive was well received, and so the pair are at it again this year.

“It was quite successful last year, so we thought we would do it again this year to help the community,” Moon said. “Jim (Donze) wants to do it and I’m glad to help him.”

Moon will be at the South Side fire station collecting donations and Donze will be at the North Side station.

People who are unable to stop by the fire stations Saturday but would like to donate can call Moon at (814) 671-7843 and arrange for the items to be picked up.

Items that filled two trucks were collected last year, Moon said.
