Fire destroys Oil City home

From staff reports

A family of three was displaced when an early-morning fire today destroyed their East Bissell Avenue home, according to Oil City Fire Department Chief Derek Long.

None of the three people was injured, but one of two dogs inside the 165 E. Bissell Ave. home died from smoke inhalation, according to Long.

The fire, Long said, started in the rear of the residence at about 4 a.m. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation and the state police fire marshal has been called in.

Neighbors were helping the home’s residents today, and the Red Cross was called in to assist, Long said.

The Oil City Fire Department was assisted by fire departments from Franklin and Seneca, along with Oil City police and Community Ambulance Service, Long said. The scene was cleared at about 8 a.m.
