FHS senior tells Sandycreek kids about her experiences in Guard

Franklin High School senior and National Guard soldier Isabella Peterson spoke on Monday to Sandycreek Elementary School students about her experience in basic combat training and its three phases (red, white and blue) during the Veterans Day assembly at Sandycreek.

Isabella Peterson, a Franklin High School senior and soldier in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, was the featured speaker at Sandycreek Elementary’s Veterans Day assembly. She enlisted in February, completed basic combat training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, in August, and now serves with a Guard unit in Butler. As a chaplain’s assistant, she supports unit ministry teams and chaplains in missions and daily activities. During her talk, she shared insights about her training, including the 11-week structure divided into red, white, and blue phases, and highlighted skills like resilience and teamwork. Her father, Jason, also spoke about the family’s pride and challenges while Isabella was away. The assembly included a song by the school’s Tiger Choir and a display of principal Joseph Keenan’s National Guard uniform, as he is a retired sergeant first class.
