Fantastic felines

Several area rescues are gearing up for The 2017 Kitty Summer Games which will be held Sunday, June 11, at the Venango SNYP building. A lovely lady shares her adoption experience with Tri-County Animal Rescue in Shippenville. Clarion PAWS and Skye’s Spirit Wildlife Rehabilitation Center could use some help in the form of donations. And there is a lot more, so keep on scrolling.

Game on!

Gemini

Gemini is one of the cats from Grove City Area Pet Rescue who may appear at the Kitten Games.

Heavenly Strays will host a multi-rescue adoption event called The 2017 Kitty Summer Games Sunday, June 11.

The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Venango SNYP Building, 720 Atlantic Ave., Franklin. Admission is free to the public.

Three rescues will be bringing cats and kittens that are looking for loving families.

The rescues are Clarion PAWS of Shippenville, Grove City Area Pet Rescue of Grove City and Precious PAWS/Venango SNYP of Franklin.

Aquarius

Aquarius is one of the cats from Grove City Area Pet Rescue who may appear at the Kitten Games.

These fur babies will be placed into three individual arenas representing “The Kitty Olympics,” “The Kitty King Kong” and “The Godzilla Kitty Battling the Robot Invasion.” Cat towers, toys, tunnels and more will be set up in the arenas.

“Anyone who is looking for a new baby or just for something fun to do can come and watch the kitties play,” organizers said.

Each rescue will have shirts and other items for sale, as well as adoption and foster home applications.

Donations of food, litter, treats, toys and care items for the rescues will be accepted.

Local vendors willing to attend the event may contact Theresa Weldon at (814) 671-9827.

The Heavenly Strays No. 28 race car will be on display in the parking lot, weather permitting.

Heavenly Strays is a group that promotes, advertises and raises money for local rescues in the area by racing throughout the summer. Its cars also drive in the Cornfield 500 Enduro Race in Columbus.

The group will be giving out door prizes every half hour beginning at 11:30 a.m.

Gracie’s story

Tri-County Animal Rescue Center in Shippenville shared a letter from one of their adopters with All About Animals.

Tricountyletter

The adopter’s letter follows:

“In November, I adopted Sweetheart, now known as Gracie Mae, and it’s been a wonderful experience. I came to your rescue looking for a long hair Maine Coon type to replace my 14 year old beloved Bob who had died. All the cats came running up to me except Sweetheart. I walked over to her and patted her head … and she slapped me (got my attention).

Then I received a donation letter in the mail and there she was with her story. She had been there for a year, was 8 years old, etc. The more I thought about her, the more I felt I should give her a home.

I kept her isolated for a week, gave her places to hide, she was so shy. I’d go in the room and talk to her several times a day but she never would come out. I knew she was okay because she was eating.

After a week, I left the door open and on day two, she came out and jumped on my lap. Now she runs through the house like she has lived here forever. End of story, I’m not sad anymore and she is happy. Thank you for Gracie.”

KittenShower

Meanwhile, Tri-County is holding its second annual Kitten Shower through Friday, June 23.

People may help by donating kitten chow, cat chow, pate-style cans, scoopable cat litter and scoops, Frontline Plus, string mops, donations to cover vet care and spay and neuter costs and gift cards from Walmart, Tractor Supply or Sharp Shopper.

Bear with him

Baloo

And if felines aren’t your thing, Tri-County has Baloo available for adoption.

Baloo is a one-year-old Rottweiler/Corgi mix who looks like a small Rottweiler on short Corgi legs.

“Like his Jungle Book namesake, Baloo likes goofing off, having his back scratched, and eating anything except honey, nuts, and berries; like his Jungle Book namesake Baloo does not like being called fat, getting his bottom bitten, being teased by monkeys, or being alone,” the rescue said.

Because life so far has been topsy-turvy for this quirky looking “special edition” dog, Baloo needs time to trust, the rescue said. Tri-County recommends that Baloo go to a home without small children.

To learn about the bear necessities with Baloo, contact Tri-County Animal Rescue Center on Facebook, call (814) 918-2032, or email contactus@Tricounty-arc.org. Tri-County is located at 9562 Route 322, Shippenville.

Curing kitties

Pawskitten

Clarion PAWS in Shippenville has some sick kitties on its hands.

“Some of the kittens have upper respiratory infections. These tiny little guys need medicine and medicated eye drops to help them get over this,” the rescue posted on Facebook. “Any donations toward their care is greatly appreciated.”

Donations can be made at www.gofundme.com/clarion-paws-kittens.

Pawsfood

Clarion PAWS resident Ryan makes a plea for food.

The shelter was also looking for some food … cat food that is.

“With over 60 residents eating Purina Adult Cat Chow, we go through at least three bags a week,” the rescue posted. “We used our last bag last night, so Ryan, and all of our other adult residents, would be extremely grateful for any donations,” the post continued.

Clarion PAWS is located at 11348 Route 322, Shippenville, Clarion River Hill, between Scrap Happy and Clarion Electric. The adoption center is open from 5 to 7 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturdays. The center is closed Fridays and Sundays. More information is available online at www.clarionpaws.org, the group’s Facebook page or by calling (814) 229-1231.

Sweet success

Venango County Humane Society in Seneca reported that its online auction was “very successful.” A Facebook post said the auction raised more than $3,000.

“Sincere thanks to everyone who donated items and bid on items. You have made a difference for the animals of this area,” the Facebook post said.

Qbert

Q Bert

The shelter has Q Bert available for adoption.

Q Bert, a beagle mix, is a year-old neutered male. His red and white coat has some ticking on the legs.

“Q Bert is calm, tolerant and playful. Being a social animal, he’ll need to spend the same amount of time in the house with his family as he does in the yard,” the shelter said in a Petfinder listing.

Regular leash-led walks and a chance to explore the yard will keep him in good physical condition, the listing said.

The humane society is open from noon to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. It is located at 286 S. Main St., Seneca. More information on the Venango County Humane Society is available by calling (814) 677-4040.

Clarionpups

Puppies up for adoption through Clarion PUPS

Clarion PUPs in Strattanville has some pups up for adoption. The mother is a beagle and Jack Russell terrier mix and the father is a beagle. They will be ready by the end of June.

Meanwhile, the rescue posted how a state police checkpoint netted one lucky puppy a home with a state trooper.

A story and photo are posted on the rescue’s Facebook page.

PUPS can be reached by calling (814) 764-5580, online at www.clarionpups.com or by messaging its Facebook Page.

Warning: Cuteness ahead

Beaver1

Baby beaver under the care of Skye’s.

Skye’s Spirit Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Harrisville posted a “Cuteness Alert” on its Facebook page earlier this week.

“This baby beaver was found swimming alone. She swam right up to (some boaters’) kayaks … which is quite abnormal,” the rescue posted on Facebook.

The rescue posted that the good Samaritan boaters walked the water’s edge for a long way looking for a beaver lodge but happened upon excavation that looks like one was destroyed.

“She’s thin, but still vibrant, so hopefully she will be OK,” the rescue said.

Beaver2
“She will be here for about two years. It takes a long time for them to mature to be ready for release,” the rescue posted.

People may donate at www.skyes-spirit.com or mail to SSWRC, 889 Farren Surrena Rd., Harrisville, Pa. 16038.

Show off your pet

The Franklin Pet Show will be held Tuesday, June 27, in Bandstand or South Park. Registration and fun games will begin at 6 p.m. with the show starting at 7 p.m. Admission is free.
