Venango County commissioners on Tuesday approved an extension on the deadline for Republican absentee ballots in next week’s primary election due to incorrect wording on the ballot regarding the GOP committee races.

On the incorrect ballots, voters are instructed to vote for one Republican committee person when they are supposed to vote for one man and one woman, county clerk Shelly Hartle said.

Corrected ballots have been sent to absentee Republican voters and will be accepted as long as they are postmarked no later than Friday.

The primary election is Tuesday.

In other business Tuesday, Hartle introduced Dottie Tawney as the new administrative assistant to the commissioners.

Commissioners approved an application for a $125,000 grant for the Venango County STOP Violence Against Women Coalition. The grant money would be used to partially fund staff at the district attorney’s office, the PPC (Prevent Protect Change) Violence Free Network, law enforcement training, a county detective and a law enforcement coordinator/STOP administrator.

The commissioners ratified agreements with Landscaping Connections for demolition of blighted property at the following locations: 211 Lamberton St., Franklin; 529 Third St., Franklin; 623 Hillside Ave., Franklin; 1007 East Second St., Oil City; and 1550 Pittsburgh Road, Franklin.

Commissioners will next meet at 6 p.m. June 12 in Room 100 of the Courthouse Annex in Franklin.
