From staff reports
Entries for the Nature Art Showcase and Sale scheduled Feb. 3 and 4 in the lobby of the Barrow-Civic Theatre in Franklin have started to arrive.
Original pieces of artwork depicting outdoor recreation, natural resources and landscapes that have already been registered include acrylic paintings, oil paintings, traditional and digital photography, alcohol ink on tiles, fabrics dyed with botanical items, wooden plaques and other media.
For example, Anna Applegate, an amateur artist who lives in Pinegrove Township and dabbles in nature photography and painting, has entered a full-color digital photograph entitled “A Brief Pause” that captures a female ruby-throated hummingbird hovering by an orange blossom.
Franklin’s Neal Parker has had a long career in conservation and art. His paintings in the 1980s tended to focus on wildlife, but then he waited another 29 years before returning to painting.
He will share with showcase attendees the second painting he completed after that long pause — it’s acrylic on Masonite and titled “Wood Fern.”
Artist registrations are free of charge, but they need to be received by Jan. 18 in order for the information to be included in a complimentary printed program provided to all guests.
Registration packets may be picked up at the Clarion Area Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Titusville Council on the Arts, Victorian City Art & Frame in Franklin, French Creek Framing and Fine Art in Meadville, The Gallery at New Bethlehem Town Center, and Penn Soil Resource Conservation & Development Council in Warren.
