Early registration due today for Jingle Bell Run

From staff reports

The Oil City Main Street Program’s annual Jingle Bell Run 5K will be held Saturday, Dec. 3. The run/walk event is being held in conjunction with Oil City’s 22nd annual Christmas Past event, slated for Dec. 2-4 in various locations of downtown Oil City.

Cost to participate is $25 if registered by today, which is also the guaranteed T-shirt deadline. Registration on Saturday or afterward will cost $30.

Remaining T-shirts will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The race will include guest appearances by both Santa and The Grinch, and it will begin with a free kids race at 8:45 a.m. at Town Square.

Race participants are encouraged to dress in holiday attire.

The 5K race will start at 9 a.m. at Seneca Street near Town Square and proceed over Veterans Memorial Bridge, then right onto Front Street, continue along Front Street just past the Oil City Marina, then turn back and return along the same route.

Portions of Seneca Street, Sycamore Street, Veterans Bridge and Front Street will be partially or fully closed to vehicles during the race.

Motorists are asked to drive slowly while in the race vicinity.

Registration will be held at the Oil City Elks Lodge, 111 Sycamore St., beginning at 8 a.m., with awards for runners and walkers to be given at the same location after the race.

“The Jingle Bell 5K is a festive tradition during Oil City’s Christmas Past,” race director Rebekah Deal said. “It’s fun to see the runners and walkers in all their holiday gear – we see everything from snowmen to gingerbread, elves and more.”
