Drop off event planned Saturday for Dress For You event

Hope 21 Ministry is collecting dresses for its annual “A Dress For You” event.

A curbside drop off will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of the National Transit Building in Oil City.

Hope 21 is collecting formal dresses, dress shoes, clutch purses and unused make up for the A Dress For You giveaway, which will be held March 17 and 18, 2023.

This is the second time Hope 21 has hosted A Dress For You, and the event this March attracted big crowds of girls looking for formal dresses, shoes and other accessories for free, with no strings attached.

Hope 21 Ministry is a clothing boutique located on the third floor of the Transit Building. The ministry has been providing free clothes, shoes and fellowship for the past six years.

This year, the ministry gave away about 500 donated formal dresses as well as accessories and makeup.

“The feedback we got was overwhelming and positive. We got emails with pictures of the girls in their dresses from their family members,” Lisa Swartz, the director of Hope 21 said.

“We are making little changes next year. I thought it went really well this year for our first time doing it,” Swartz added, noting that more dressing room space and improving the flow of people in and out of the event are among the changes in the works.

People with items to donate will be able to park their vehicles Saturday in the spaces in front of the Transit Building, and volunteers will help unload the items, Swartz said.
