DHS alerts EBT users of ongoing scam

The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS) is warning SNAP benefit recipients of a scam involving fraudulent text messages claiming that an individual’s EBT card has been deactivated, urging them to call a number to reactivate it. DHS clarified that they never send deactivation alerts via text and that such messages requesting personal information are scams. Suspicious texts or calls can be reported to the DHS fraud tip line at 1-844-347-8477. Official DHS communications are sent only from 1-833-648-1964, and legitimate links will end in .gov or .org. For questions about communications, recipients should contact DHS’s Office of Income Maintenance.
