The long-awaited demolition of the former Days Inn hotel in downtown Oil City began this week, starting with the restaurant area and progressing to one of the upper corners of the five-story building. The $345,000 demolition contract was awarded to Bert Klapec Inc., with the project moving faster than expected, according to John R. Phillips II, president of the Oil Region Alliance (ORA). The hotel, which had been vacant since 2019 and deteriorating, was purchased by the city and ORA with plans for demolition. The building had previously operated as a Holiday Inn, Arlington, and America’s Best Value Inn before becoming a Days Inn in 2013. Despite promises of reopening, the hotel remained closed and fell into disrepair after being sold in 2021.
