Cub Scout Pack 37 to hold sign-up event

From staff reports

Cub Scout Pack 37 of Franklin will hold a sign-up event at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 11, at the Sandycreek fire hall.

Boys in kindergarten through fifth grade may attend to participate in hands-on activities and learn more about Scouting.

The Cub Scout program is offered by the Boy Scouts of America as a way to help boys learn about leadership, conservation, citizenship, community service and outdoor ethics.

Pack 37 is sponsored by the Sandycreek Volunteer Fire Department and is associated with the French Creek Council and the Colonel Drake District.

Weekly meetings are typically held on Mondays at various spots in the Franklin area, including the Sandycreek fire hall. Many of the current members live in the Franklin and Valley Grove school districts.

Pack activities include family campouts, cookouts, hiking, service projects, games, Pinewood Derby, field trips, and summer day and overnight camps.

This year Pack 37 will offer the new BSA Lions program for boys in kindergarten. The program is guided by a volunteer leader, but is designed for parent involvement as the boys learn about their community, state, and world. Members will have the opportunity to participate in many of the traditional Cub Scout activities, but will meet only two times a month.

Interested children and their parents or guardians can sign up for all levels of Cub Scouts at the Sept. 11 meeting. Registrations are accepted throughout the year.
