Area families are taking advantage of the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission’s Mentored Youth Trout Days program. The program takes place before the traditional rush of the regional and statewide opening days of trout season. Last year, more than 28,000 kids signed up to participate, either by purchasing a $1 voluntary youth fishing license or by acquiring a free mentored youth fishing permit, according to the commission’s website.
Local father Rhett Ritchey sent these photos of his family fishing on April 9 to VenangoExtra.com. All of the fish they caught were released back into the stream. The biggest fish was an 18-inch brown trout caught by Cole Ritchey. In the family photo (from left) are Cole, Jerry, Makayla, Rhett, Randy, Connor and Quinn Ritchey. Ritchey said, “I think it’s awesome that my dad and my uncle are so willing to invest their time in my own kids much like they did to me.”
