Payless shoe store in Cranberry is listed as a “store under negotiation” as part of the company’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing.

The company filed for bankruptcy April 4.

“As part of Payless’ Chapter 11 restructuring, we are taking steps to further rationalize our store fleet in the U. S. and Puerto Rico,” said Meghan Spreer, a senior analyst with Payless corporate communications, in an email to the newspaper.

“We are seeking U. S. Bankruptcy Court approval to close 112 stores in the U. S. and Puerto Rico and we are also seeking the authority to close up to an additional 296 stores in those regions,” she said.

The company has a website, http://www.paylessrestructure.com, dedicated to the process.

On that website, only one Pennsylvania Payless store – in Royersford – is included on a “store closing” list.

Fourteen Pennsylvania stores – including the one in Cranberry – are included on a “stores under negotiation” list.

It is not known if the Cranberry store will be closing in the future.

Payless’ website, http://www.paylessrestructure.com, includes an FAQ for customers. Anyone who has questions can also call (844) 648-5574.

Payless stores that are staying open will continue to operate normal business hours during the Chapter 11 process, and customers will still be able to find the shoes that they want, the company said.

Payless is not going out of business, the company said.
