An Oil City woman and her boyfriend were taken into custody Wednesday at Hasson Heights Elementary School.
Oil City police said officers were at the school on an unrelated call when they were alerted by staff members that 33-year-old April Dunkle was there to pick up her children.
Dunkle arrived at the school in a car owned and driven by her boyfriend Edward Lane, 36, police said.
Dunkle and Lane have been in a relationship for some time, and she was aware that he is registered as a sexual offender under Megan’s Law, police said.
Lane, currently under the supervision of the Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole, is not cleared to be in the presence or care of minor children.
Law enforcement officials were in the area of the Oil City Middle School Wednesday based on previous reports received by police and probation officers that Lane was in the presence of Dunkle’s children, would supervise them alone and would be picking them up at school Wednesday.
Dunkle and Lane arrived at Hasson Heights Elementary at about 12:45 p.m. to pick up Dunkle’s two children, but officers quickly left the building, leaving Dunkle inside and detaining Lane inside his vehicle on the authority of an agent with the Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole.
Dunkle was also taken into custody at the school for felony endangering the welfare of children, police said.
Upon completing the booking procedures at the police department, Dunkle was found to be in possession of a controlled substance and other drug paraphernalia, police said.
Additional charges were filed and she was scheduled to be arraigned before district judge Andrew Fish.
Lane was taken from the scene by McAndrews for violating the terms and conditions of his supervision, police said.
