Jacy Good and husband Steve Johnson will present “Hang Up and Drive” at 10 a.m. Saturday in Suites on Main North Theater at Clarion University.
IA Construction of Franklin is sponsoring the presentation for a second year with funds raised through an annual golf outing.
After college sweethearts Good and Johnson received their diplomas from Muhlenberg College in Allentown in May 2008, Good and her parents were on their way home when their car was struck head-on by a tractor trailer. The truck driver had swerved to avoid a vehicle that had illegally turned left on red while the driver was distracted by talking on his phone.
After extensive treatment, Good has healed from most of her injuries, but a traumatic brain injury caused paralysis in her left arm and lower left leg, and she has minor lingering cognitive issues.
Less than a year after the accident, Good began to campaign for a ban in Pennsylvania on cell phone use while driving, and, after multiple interview requests, she and Johnson decided to take their story on the road.
“If we can save one kid’s life, it’s a success,” said Jeremy Schmader, assistant regional controller for IA Construction.
