The Venango County Coon & Fox Club will hold its second Bluegrass Festival of the year this weekend. It’s an event in which musicians volunteer to perform.
Admission and entertainment are free but donations will be accepted, club President Bogan Goughler said.
The club will not know who all will perform until Friday afternoon. The amount of musicians who sign up to participate will determine if the singing starts at 6 or 7 p.m. and ends at 10 or 11 p.m. Friday.
Goughler said performances will begin at about 1 p.m. Saturday, and it’s possible that the first group to perform that day will play again in the evening.
On Sunday, the singing will take place from 11 a.m. to noon, when guests sing gospel songs and tell stories.
On Friday, breakfast will be served from 7 to 10 a.m.; the concession stand opens at 4 p.m. Breakfast hours stay the same all weekend, but the concession stand opens at 1 p.m. Saturday.
During the past few years of the festival, Goughler said about 55 to 60 people have camped out on the club’s land for the weekend. Even during the pandemic the festival was held, but attendance was “as low as 39.”
During the July festival, Goughler said, there were 66 campers, which is about average, and he expects there to be more people in attendance this weekend.
“A lot of guests say this is the best (Bluegrass Festival) they go to because of the way they’re treated, and there’s no charge for camping.”
In turn, Goughler appreciates the guests because they take care of their trash and “are very good at cleaning things up around (the club).”
