Cooking up some dinners

Some pre-Oil Heritage Festival events, including the Elks Club chicken dinner, Town Square concert, art show receptions, and pet show, were held Wednesday on the North Side of Oil City. As Sam Breene (pictured here) prepared a tray of chickens for the Elks dinner, he said the festival “feels like a big deal this year. And I think that’s a great thing.” Breene talked about the days when the summer celebration would span a week and was always a focal point of his childhood. “There are a lot of things to celebrate this year,” said Breene, who added the dinners were selling well on Wednesday. Many festival events are on tap today, including the children’s pool party, touch-a-truck, the first day of the book sale, children’s goodie bags, spaghetti supper, ice cream social, queen crowning, and Mitch Littler and Echo Valley concerts.
